Thermodynamic limit and proof of condensation for trapped bosons

چکیده
We study condensation of trapped bosons in the limit when the number of particles tends to infinity. For the noninteracting gas we prove that there is no phase transition in any dimension, but in any dimension, at any temperature the system is 100% condensated into the oneparticle ground state. In the case of an interacting gas we show that for a family of suitably scaled pair interactions, the Gross-Pitaevskii scaling included, a less-than-100% condensation into a single-particle eigenstate, which may depend on the interaction strength, persists at all temperatures. Thermodynamics of SU(2) bosons in one dimension
On the basis of Bethe ansatz solution of two-component bosons with SU(2) symmetry and δ-function interaction in one dimension, we study the thermodynamics of the system at finite temperature by using the strategy of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA). It is shown that the ground state is an isospin “ferromagnetic” state by the method of TBA, and at high temperature the magnetic property is domina...

– On the basis of a macroscopic ground state population it was argued recently that Bose-Einstein condensation should occur in a one-dimensional harmonic potential. We examine this situation by drawing analogies to Bosons in a two-dimensional box, where the thermodynamic limit is well-defined. We show that in both systems although the ground state populations show sharp onsets at the critical t...
متن کاملTrapped interacting two-component bosons in one dimension
Abstract. In this paper we solve one dimensional trapped SU(2) bosons with repulsive δ-function interaction by means of Bethe-ansatz method. The features of ground state and low-lying excited states are studied by numerical and analytic methods. We show that the ground state is an isospin “ferromagnetic” state which differs from spin-1/2 fermions system. There exist three quasi-particles in the...
متن کاملFluctuations of Bose-Einstein Condensate
The recent achievement of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in trapped atoms of dilute gases [1–3] has been quickly followed by the quantitative measurements of the condensate’s properties. In particular the dependence of the fraction of atoms in the condensate on the temperature has been found to be in agreement with the theory of the noninteracting Bose gas in a harmonic trap [4]. From the poi...
متن کاملBose-Einstein condensation of a finite number of particles trapped in one or three dimensions.
Bose-Einstein condensation ~BEC! of an ideal gas is investigated for a finite number of particles. In three dimensions, we find a transition temperature which is lower than in the thermodynamic limit. Lowering the dimension increases the transition temperature and is therefore favorable for BEC. This is in contrast to the standard result obtained in the thermodynamic limit which states that BEC...
